You're not going to get any tangible increase in data granularity in 4 pixels, especially considering the scales can change based on throughput. For something like the network usage, where I do have some interest in whether there is any traffic at all, however slight, I have the numerical display enabled along with the graphical. None of the other icons in my menu extend vertically 100%, including all the OS X ones. The MenuMeters approach looks and feels crowded to me. It's not as bubbly/themey though (which is /personally/ less important when it comes to system data). On a side note, I use just the calendar icon for the clock. Then again, looking at it more carefully now, maybe the muted transparency will grow on me… I think I'd prefer a richer read and white sheet as opposed to the muted red and transparent sheet it has now. Not necessarily for it to be rotated and have the page curl, but color-wise. As a personal preference, I prefer the icon to look more like the Calendar app icon, though. Just updated and it looks better, especially when setting it up. People telling us things are crap helps us fine tune them. If you think 4.03 is also crap, let me know! Everything was completely redrawn for 4.0 to give the app Retina support - a huge task and there's probably a few things that can (and will) be improved. Yep, the calendar icon in iStat Menus 4.0 was a bit crap. The new calendar icon for the date bit is crap, though. I do like that it has network stats for individual processes instead of just each interface. Yes, iStat Menus and iStat for iOS are paid apps, but we have to eat. iStat for iOS and iStat Server are definitely still being developed and supported, too. We've released about 20 updates in the last couple of years, including iStat Menus 4, a major update.

So, iStat Pro is no longer supported, but iStat Menus definitely is. You can probably still find a copy of the widget somewhere - we're totally happy for you to keep using it.

We stopped developing widgets a long time ago (2008ish), but we kept the old iSlayer site alive so people could continue to download iStat Pro and our other widgets.

We make Mac and iOS apps, but don't make Widgets any more - it seems Apple's focus has shifted away from widgets, plus we changed from doing this as a hobby to starting a full time company a few years ago. We used to be called iSlayer, and that's the name all our OS X Dashboard widgets were released under.
i found the download of the program, but their site seems to be mia. Did the istat thing disappear? it looks like the companies website vanished.
